Easy Breezy Diaper Changing

Mummies love spending time bonding with our babies, especially in their first year where every little milestone means a lot to us. Baby’s first smile to you, baby’s first sounds, and baby’s first flip which would lead to a mountain of first movements that would leave us new parents of a young baby amazed (you don’t find them at the same spot you left them!) and flustered (you can never get through a diaper change without resistance!)

Though we do not find it a hassle to change Ava whenever a diaper change is necessary, the constant battle we have as we lay her in a lying down position is both frustrating and hilarious. She would start doing crunches as we try to lay her down to remove her diapers and she would get agitated, turning red as she struggles to flip over and crawl away! Looking at Aiden still in his diapers at home (3 year 6 month old), it seemed a long way before we can transit to toilet training and diaper free days.

You can imagine how elated we were when we discovered that Drypers Drypantz can be worn for babies from 7kg (approximately 6 months old)! Now diaper changing is no longer a battle. Instead, we can spend the time bonding with her, singing to her and applying creams to her baby soft skin. What’s more, Drypers Drypantz remain our choice because of the soft and breathable waistband that reduces chances of skin irritation, ensures better air circulation and ultimate comfort for our baby’s skin.
Meet Airy, the cheery and colorful windmill, embodying better air circulation and breathability in the new Drypers Drypantz. This breathable waistband helps to reduce red irritable marks and reducing pressure on baby’s tummy. This eased the worry we had about the pants diaper being too tight or uncomfortable for Ava with long hours of wearing, as the waistband cannot be adjusted like the usual diapers.

And here’s Softie, an adorable, fluffy little cloud embodying softness and comfort, just like the unique technology which goes into making Drypers Drypantz’s waistband extra soft and gentle on baby’s skin.
You’d need to feel the pants diaper to believe it yourself. It is so soft and airy, yet providing great absorbance, comfort and most importantly, convenience for us! While we are out and need a quick diaper change, I can do it discreetly in the car and we need not find a changing table to do so with the pants diaper.

Now, we can breathe easy with Drypers Drypantz and enjoy family outings and bonding time instead of worrying about battling with diaper changes and irritation to our baby’s skin with long wearing pants diapers. Whee! Try this out today.

Baby's First Seat - Prince Lionheart BebePod

While shopping for a first seat for Ava, we had two things in mind - safety and comfort. Many of our friends use the bumbo seat but reading about the bumbo seat recalls prompted us to look for alternatives. It didn't take us long before we set our eyes on the Prince Lionheart BebePod.

Here's what we love about the Prince Lionheart BebePod

Safety belt
We were already won over when we saw the safety belts. There is a front safety belt to secure the baby to the seat so that she won't be able to wriggle or push her way out. The two side belts are for securing to a seat when you need a high chair, perfect and so convenient.

Soft material
When we first saw the BebePod, it looked very tough and we thought it'd be hard. Upon touching it, we were surprised to find that it's made of a softer stretchable material. This is ideal for babies who are beginning to sit up and if doesn't hurt their fragile frame and still feels comfortable after sitting down for a longer stretch. No more attempting to carry baby with one arm and feeding with the other.

Adjustable tray

This is perfect as it allows us to fit the seat with the adjustable tray during feeding time and we can remove it so it doesn't get in the way during play time. Makes cleaning up more convenient too as we can remove the tray for washing.

Easy to clean
Babies are prone to messes. If we had to worry about removing the food stains, it would deny us more quality time spent with the kids. We love how easy it is to maintain and clean the BebePod. For cleaning of more stubborn stains, use a food grade detergent and wipe off with a cloth.

Complements lifestyle

On the go, moving between my parents' place and ours and this is so easy to transport. Doubles as a baby high chair when we attach the straps to a regular chair. Juggling two kids, we often have to divide our attention and time for each of them. With the BebePod, it allows us to have the both of them 'play' in the same space.

Stylish design
We are pretty selective in the furniture, toys and accessories we get for Aiden and Ava. One very important criteria is its design. With a Scandinavian minimalist theme to our home decor, we love how this baby seat goes well in the living room, at the balcony and in her bedroom. It doesn't look too kiddy and looks good in pictures too!

Cool colors
Available in an array of attractive colors including blue, pink and cool grey, we got the one in grey as it matches our home and it's super versatile in pictures.

The Prince Lionheart bébéPOD® flex with tray retails at $59.90 (Usual Price: $88.90) and is available at Mums & Babes stores.

Ava at 8 months old

Looking back at how this eight month old little girl has grown since she came into our lives when I was 36 weeks pregnant. An early bird like her brother, both of them can hardly wait to see us and arrived at 35 weeks 5 days (Aiden) and 36 weeks 1 day (Ava).
Me at week 35 with Ava arriving in a week's time
At week 35, I was already wading and feeling like a whale. Being busy at work didn't allow me to slow down my pace and I was rushing everywhere I went with this big round belly. Lucky for me both of my pregnancies did not give me unbearable, unforgettable symptoms. Besides the one time I had food poisoning when I was pregnant with Ava, it all went quite smooth for me (this could be the memory loss post pregnancy kicking in).

4 day old, her first time on her cot bed
Ava arrived on 17 Nov, 2014 at 4.03pm via planned C-section. Her birthing process was short and sweet fortunately and we were calmer than the first time. My water bag burst as though on cue (it was the exact same case with Aiden), and this time she was in our arms fairly quickly.

Sweet dreams baby
New mums would relate well to this. I find myself attracted very much to my new born baby and can spend time just looking over her cot and smile to myself, knowing she is contented and happy.

Stork bite marks on her eye lids
The first few visits to her doctor got us really worried as she has these stork bite marks that look really obvious and red on her eye lids. These seem to occur when the blood vessels stretch during fetal development and they remain visible on the skin after birth. Some of these will fade after a few months while some may take years or even be permanent. I was looking this up quite a bit over the internet and was affected as it was getting more obvious on her skin day by day. Luckily by the time she was 2-3 month old, it faded away on its own.

Hello! Miss Bright Eyes taking pictures for her full month favour gift boxes

I was contemplating signing up for a newborn photography package for Ava, but with her jaundice which took more than a month to go away, and the redness on her eyelids, I decided to take my own pictures of her instead. I need to remind myself to take more pictures to be fair!

Hello gor gor, my protector
I am really looking forward to the days where Aiden and Ava can play independently together and enjoy the company of each other. We have another 10 months to go at least I guess. Nowadays I try to have them interact while Aiden is playing with his cars and when we bring the both of them out to the playground. Ava chuckles really loudly when she plays with Aiden (or when he wants to play with her), and I really love the small steps taken for the siblings to bond with each other.

Ava at 7 month old

Aiden at 6 month old
Same same but different. I put their pictures when they are both around the same age to compare lately and find that both of them look pretty different.

At Red Dot 2014, Hong Lim Park
Let me try to find time for this, as it is interesting to start a book documenting the both of them at the same age - month by month.

Conversations about life matters, and the little things in life that matter

<While we were brushing teeth together in the morning>

“Daddy, you wear work clothes because you go work today, right?”

“Yes. Today is a work day.”

“You work then will have money, right?”

“That’s right.”

“Why you never wear work clothes yesterday?”

“That’s because I took leave to help Mummy with her business.”

“Okay. Because you love Mummy right?”

“Yes, of course. I love you too, Aiden.”

“I love you too, Daddy.”

It’s amazing how many subtle things a 3 year old can pick up without you emphasising / repeating it.

Amidst the uncertainty, stress and challenge of setting up our retail business and planning the next step in my career, that short conversation with Aiden was exactly what I needed to focus again on the things that matter to our family.

Aiden is a genius psychologist but he doesn’t know it.

The next day, I slipped a $50 note into his money pot, and read him one more Peppa Pig book. I considered it fair payment.

Time to start living

Recently, a link to an article titled “Your Life in Weeks” surfaced on my Facebook wall. Being (slightly) obsessed with order, planning and being in control, the article (which had an accompany picture of neat rows of boxes) naturally piqued my interest.

It turned out to be an attempt to sell posters (that anyone can create with their computer), but having the opposing concepts of a finite lifespan and an uncertain end presented in the graphical format really gave me a timely reminder about life.

When I saw the first chart with rows and rows of boxes (each representing a week of your life) in the article, I thought to myself, not bad! There’s lots of time left to play with - perhaps a new house at 35, a holiday in Greece at 40, and world domination by 45. Maybe I should fire up Excel on my laptop and plan out the next 10 years on a spreadsheet, like I did 10 years ago. After all, things did go largely according to that plan! How exciting would "My Life in Excel 2.0" be, I wondered.

Obviously not taking things seriously when asked by my employer to write a note to ourselves 3 years into the future. The note was kept in a time capsule in 2008 and only returned to us in 2011.

And then, I saw the same chart but with some famous deaths marked out according to the exact week that they passed on. John Lennon at 40 plus, Michael Jackson at 51 plus, Steve Jobs at 56 plus. Suddenly, I was at a lost. There isn’t a formula in Excel that could predict when my own end will come and automatically adjust my life plan accordingly. Life often just… ends.

How would I feel if my end came unexpectedly early. Would I be looking back at a fulfilling life, or would I be lamenting about what could have been if I had a little bit more time?

My thoughts were then interrupted by Aiden’s voice coming out of the bedroom. He was calling out for Mummy Cher to join him and read him some Chinese storybooks before he goes to bed. I switched off the laptop, went into the bedroom and offered to read him some storybooks.

"Daddy, you very long never read this book to me", he exclaimed at one point.

He enjoyed the first three books that I read so much that he asked for four more. Mummy Cher eventually read him three more before he called it a night.

Life may be short for some, and long for others, but with an ending that comes suddenly, there isn’t a better time to start living than right now.

My Greatest Joy As A Mum

Being mum to two kids is not an easy role. But when asked by my friends what’s the greatest joy as a mum, it’s without a doubt the moment my kids flash their widest smile for me when I return home to them. With my hectic lifestyle as a full time working mum, I often have to make a conscious effort to finish work for the day and return home to the kids.

I feel my stress melt away as I hold my baby girl close to me and see her toothless grin as I shower her with kisses. When I am not by her side, it is important to me to know that she is in the best possible care and is most comfortable and happy. This wasn’t the case a few months back when she was four month old. She often experienced nappy rash which left her bum red and sensitive to touch, making bath time a cry out session. This is no longer the case with the new Drypers Wee Wee Dry range. The new range has an extra absorbent layer that provides her with dry comfort as it effectively absorbs and distributes urine which keeps her skin comfortable and dry. We are so glad we made the switch and it’s really worth it seeing the smile on her face and how she enjoys bath time again.

At 7 months old, Ava can interact better with us and she appears to be very excited and happy when we hold her in our arms. At this stage, she puts everything she can grab hold of into her mouth. She is also learning to crawl at this stage, and with all the wriggling about, it is important her diaper makes her feel comfortable and stays right on her but not too tight nor too loose that it causes leakage. With the new specially designed fastening tape accompanying the new Drypers Wee Wee Dry diaper, it allows for multi-refastening, making it easy for us to readjust the fastening whenever we need to do so. This makes it so much more convenient and prevents wastage, as we need not change to a new diaper when the fastener is no longer sticky.

While preparing for her baby cot bed, we shopped around for the best blanket to give her the most pampering and comfortable sleep. The same holds true when we select diapers for her. It has to be the softest, most breathable and best for her skin. When we discovered the new Drypers Wee Wee Dry diapers, we were pleasantly surprised it was made of 100% breathable soft cloth-like cover and did not hesitate to give it a try.

Taking a cue from raising our elder boy, we decided to have a bedtime routine for Ava. We would shower Ava in the evening, apply moisturizer on her skin and change her into comfortable clothes for bedtime. I would sing and hug her close to calm her down when she feels agitated. This has a calming effect on her and very often she lies on my shoulder and falls asleep. In the new range of Drypers Wee Wee Dry Diapers, four natural plant extracts, Vitamin E, Chamomile, Olive Extract and Aloe Vera are used and this helps to keep Ava’s sensitive skin comfortable.

I enjoy being able to see her achieve little milestones as she grows up. Her joyful chuckles and curious eyes as she explores the world around her. This wouldn’t be possible if she didn’t feel comfortable.
